This paper contributes to the growing literature on transformational leadership by gauging whether such leaders increase state hope in their followers. This study included a quantitative survey designed to measure leadership behaviors as perceived by their followers for transformational leadership as well as followers' self-reported assessments of their own hopefulness. Correlation and regression analysis indicated such a relationship does exist between increased hopefulness and transformational leadership. Opportunities for further research and implications for leadership practice are then discussed.
