Thermodynamic Description of the Cadmium-Nickel System

The thermodynamic discription of the Cd-Ni binary system was carried out with the help of CAL culation of PHAse Diagram (CALPHAD) method. The solution phases (Liquid, HCP_A3 (Cd) and FCC_A1 (Ni)) were modeled with the Sublattice formalism and the excess term of the Gibbs energy with the RedlichKister equation. The intermetallic compounds Cd5Ni and CdNi which a narrow homogeneity range, were modeled using a two-sublattice model with a mutual substitution of Cd and Ni on both sublattices. The calculations based on the thermodynamic modeling are in good agreement with the phase diagram data and experimental thermodynamic values.
