Abstract
The kinetics of oxidation of diethylene glycol by ditelluratoargentate (III) in alkaline medium has been studied by using spectrophotometer in the temperatures of 298.2K-318.2K. All data was obtained in the pseudo-first order reaction. The reaction rate showed a first-order for [diethylene glycol]. The observed rates constants (k
obs) increased with increasing [reductant] and [OH-], but k
obs decreased with the increase of [TeO
42-]. In addition, there is a negative salt effect on the reaction of [diethylene glycol]. A plausible mechanism involving a slow reaction as the rate-controlled step is proposed and the rate equations derived from the mechanism can explain all the experimental results. Thus, the activation parameters at 298.2K were calculated.
