Abstract
Water is a universal solvent and is essential to all forms of life in the universe. Hectic Agricultural activities, Urbanization, Industrialization pollute the ground water in addition to sea water intrusion in coastal regions and make waters unsuitable for utility. The present research is focused on the characterization of ground water near nonpoint sources of pollution to evaluate the quality for their assessment of their potentials for various applications. Twelve ground water samples were collected and characterized for physicochemical parameters viz, pH, Electrical Conductivity (EC), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS),Total Hardness (TH), Total Alkalinity (TA), Ca
+2,Mg
+2,Na
+,K
+, Cl
-, SO
42-,PO
42-,F
- and NO
3- to assess the chemical contamination status. Higher levels of EC, TDS,TH, TA, Ca
+2 , Mg
+2, Na
+, K
+, Cl
-, SO
42- and NO
3- revealed the unsuitability of waters for drinking, domestic and industrial purposes. The waters are to be treated properly by the available treatment methodologies for considering them for use.
