Abstract
Synthesis of a novel series of γ,γ- disbstituted butenolides with a thiophene moiety is described. The synthetic target is achieved by a simple protocol involving condensation of β-(2-thenoyl) acrylic acid and β-(5-chloro-2-thenoyl )acrylic acid with different mono, di and trihydroxy phenols. The synthesized compounds were characterized by microanalysis and spectroscopic studies.
