Abstract

Wellbore trajectoryprediction is one of the most important topics in the drilling engineering field. To predict the wellbore trajectory accurately, a good understanding of the bottom hole assembly (BHA) mechanics is essential. In this study, a Transfer Matrix method was used to model the BHA in 2D static conditions. The bit and formation anisotropy are also considered in the model. By using the Transfer Matrix principle, wellbore trajectory in the transient condition(from the initial conditions to the final equilibrium conditions) can be predicted after finding the direction of the wellbore at the initial conditions.Results shown that the Transfer Matrix method is an effective way to calculate thedynamic BHA conditions and prediction transient wellbore trajectory during drilling.
